Koi Adoption

As an alternative to buying koi from a dealer, rehoming koi to your own pond is a rewarding, ethical practice, and at the core of our mission at Majestic Koi Rescue. Finding new, caring homes for our rescue koi is what it’s all about.

Top 5 Reasons to Adopt Koi

If you’re interested in buying koi fish, here’s some reasons why adoption is so much better:

  1. You can save money.
You can get high-quality, large koi at a fraction of what you would pay to a koi dealer or koi supply store when you adopt from our rescue ponds.
  2. You might get a champion-quality or rare koi fish.
We often rescue champion-quality or rare Japanese koi, such as Showa, Kohaku, Kujaku, Chagoi, and more.
  3. We’ve done all the dirty work.
We rescue fish from all types of ponds and circumstances, the good, the bad, and the ugly. All koi are quarantined for 4-6 weeks and/or rehabilitated prior to introduction into other koi communities to avoid spreading disease.
  4. You will save a life
Rescuing a fish is an ethical and rewarding act that helps us reduce the number of needlessly killed or suffering fish.
  5. You will help more than just one fish.
Adopting koi makes room for more fish that require rescuing.

Your donation is greatly appreciated as it helps us pay for medical, maintenance costs of our rescue ponds, and our rescue services.

Rehoming Requirements

To ensure ideal rehoming environment for our rescued koi, we have some baseline requirements you must meet prior to adopting our koi.

  • 1,500 gallon minimum pond size and upwards based on ratios of gallons per koi
  • Appropriate filtration system (biological and mechanical)
  • Your pond must be secured from predators
  • You must have the capability and intent to home the koi for at least 10 years, or what we call, “A Forever Home.”

When we reach our pond limits and after fish have been quarantined, we contact our foster homes and provide them with any new koi that may need loving forever homes.

Rehoming Fees

The most common question we get asked is, “how much is it to adopt koi?” Compared to a koi importer or supplier, is pennies on the dollar. At our rescue, fees vary depending on size, variety, and current supply.
